Jack Ma

Jack Ma was born to a traditional musician story teller parents on October 15, 1964 in Hangzhou, China. He is the co-founder and executive chairman of Alibaba group. He is the richest man in China. He wasn’t all successful at the beginning, he failed a lot of times. He failed in his primary school education twice. He failed his middle school graduating exam three times. He got rejected by Harvard University 10 times. He was rejected by 30 different jobs. Frustrated with lack of employment opportunities, Jack Ma relied on his English to teach at the local university he had attended a few years prior and to start a translation service business. In 1994, Jack Ma heard about the internet. In 1995, Jack Ma, his wife Cathy and a friend raised US$20,000 which was dedicated to creating websites for companies. He named it china pages. In 1999, Jack Ma along with his team found Alibaba, a china-based business-to-business market place site. The Alibaba group has nine major subsidiaries now; Alibaba.com, Taobao marketplace, Tmall, eTao, Alibaba cloud computing, Juhuasuan, 1688.com, AliExpress.com and Alipay.

From his story, we could see that anything is achievable with patience, determination, focus and hard work.

Richard Branson

Richard Branson is the founder of Virgin Group. Richard Branson dropped out of school at the age of 16 as he had no interest in studies. He started a magazine named Student. It was a mail-order record business. He sold magazines to local businesses. He started selling mail records to the students who bought the magazine. His idea boomed and within a year, he started his own recording studio and recording label and named it as Virgin Records. The idea of starting virgin airlines came during his late twenties. He was going to Virgin Island to meet his girlfriend. His final flight to Virgin Island was cancelled because of some reason. Since it was the last flight of the day and he really needed to go to island, he considered chartering a plane but he did not have that much money. He decided to get a small blackboard on which he wrote ‘Virgin Airlines $29’. He sold the tickets to the people who wanted to go to virgin island and used that money to pay for the chartered plane . After that, he acted upon that idea to make it the real business and founded Virgin Airlines.

This story pushes us to act and try to turn our ideas into reality. You might have numerous doubts in your mind but never give up and work harder.

 

Mark Zuckerberg

Mark Zuckerberg is the chief executive officer, chairman and a co-founder of Facebook. He was born into a well-educated family and developed an interest in computer programming at a young age. At age 12, Zuckerberg created Zucknet, a messaging program that he used as an inter-office communication system for his father’s dental practice. He enrolled in Harvard University after prep. Zuckerberg created CourseMatch and FaceMash in his sophomore year. Both programs became popular but the university shut down the latter program as it was deemed inappropriate. Zuckerberg was a Harvard undergraduate when he started the Facebook social networking website. He partnered with friends to create Facebook. The site officially went live in June 2004. Zuckerberg dropped out of college after his sophomore year to pursue Facebook full time.
